H --- Full shield.
HO --- Oversized full shield.
HOX --- Extra oversized full shield.
What advantage does a footswitch offer over conventional controls for my product?
What are some of the standard cord types available for a foot switch?
Some of the types of jacket construction are listed below.
Type - Description - Jacket Material
SJT - Service Junior Thermoplastic - PVC
SJTO - SJT with Oil Resistant Jacket - PVC
SJO - SJ with Oil Resistant Jacket - Neoprene
SO - Oil Resistant Jacket - Neoprene
SVT - Service Vacuum Thermoplastic - PVC
SJ - Junior Hard Service - Rubber
What does "18/3 SJT" refer to when you describe a cord?
The cord terminology "18/3 SJT", indicates the gauge or thickness of the cord (18), the number of conductors (3) and the construction or material of the outer jacket (SJT).
Why do switches without cords have a higher electrical rating than foot switches with cord? How is the electrical rating of a foot switch determined?
The electrical rating printed on our nameplate is that of the lowest rated component within the foot switch. The interior snap switch, the cord and the plug are all parts that have a maximum electrical rating. If the interior switch has a maximum electrical rating of 15 Amps but the cable on the foot switch is rated for 10 Amps, then the nameplate will reflect the 10 Amp rating. That is why a foot switch without cord may hold a higher electrical rating than a foot switch with a cord.
How do your maintained foot switches work?
The maintained foot switch requires more force to operate than the momentary foot switch. The back (away from operator) of the switch needs to be firmly pressed until it snaps into the up position.
A maintained detent, located on back of the foot switch holds the cover up or down.
The foot switch will remain in the up position until the user presses firmly near the front (toward operator) of the switch, bringing it back to the down position.
Since the interior snap switch is SPDT, the foot switch can be wired to be "ON" in either the up or down position.
The maintained Clipper and Aquiline models operate with a press-on, press again-off actuation.
The maintained Hercules models operate with the use of a latching mechanism that engages the treadle and locks it when depressed. To release the treadle, the operator moves their foot forward with a lateral movement releasing the latch and the pedal returns to the up position.
Why is the internal switch function markings reversed on some of your foot switches?
The function markings on the switch insulation differ from the markings on the actual snap switch for the following reason. The interior snap switches on some of our foot switches are pre-loaded, that is the pin plunger is depressed with the foot switch in the at-rest position. When the foot switch pedal is depressed, it releases the pin plunger of the interior switch.

USE OF FOOT CONTROLS ON MACHINERY LACKING EFFECTIVE POINT OF OPERATION SAFEGUARDS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE OPERATOR.
Foot controls should only be used where "Point of Operation" and "Pinch Point" guarding devices have been properly installed and are utilized so that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the operator's hands or fingers to remain within the point of operation during the machine cycle.
POINT OF OPERATION-The point or area of the machine or equipment where the work piece or material is actually positioned and work is being performed during any process such as cutting, shearing, punching, forming, welding, riveting, assembling, etc.
PINCH POINT-Any point at which it is possible for a portion of the body to be caught and injured between moving machine or equipment or work piece parts.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE USER to determine the suitability of a foot control for the user's intended use and to determine that the foot control chosen by the user and wring up and installation of same will comply with all Federal, State and Local safety and health regulations and codes.
Due to the unlimited variety of business equipment, instruments, machines and vehicles on which our foot switches are used, the thousands of standards, and customers' varying interpretations of the standards covering these applications, it is impossible for LINEMASTER® personnel to be experts on standards and requirements for all these products. We offer over 150 stock foot switch models and guards plus a large variety of specials which are made to customer specifications. We can advise you what is available in our foot switch line and you can examine models to see what meets your needs. We believe our customers' engineering departments should be the qualified experts in their own product field and know what specifications or details they may require in a foot switch for their equipment. If one of our stock models meets their needs, they can specify it, or possibly ask for a modification of a stock model if that is required.
SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR IF ANY OF THE ABOVE WARNING IS UNCLEAR, PLEASE CALL LINEMASTER® SWITCH CORPORATION.
LINEMASTER® SWITCH CORPORATION reserves the right to discontinue or change specifications, designs or materials, without notice consistent with sound engineering principles and modern practices.
